I have been asked if I am going to give up something for Lent this year.
Last week a Wall Street Journal reporter had an interesting contemporary twist on that theme: parents trying to abstain from Facebook. (via getReligion.org)
Of course people do get addicted:
No I am not giving up Facebook or any other technology related things for Lent.
I have given up shampoo and conditioner for Lent. Last year on our local ABC radio drive time presenter Richard Glover had a No Shampoo Challenge. It all began when Richard discovered that London Times columnist, former Tory MP and political sketch writer Matthew Parris had not washed his hair for 15 years. He rinses his hair vigorously with water, but just doesn’t use shampoo.
Matthew Parris was a little bemused by the whole thing.
The results of Richard’s challenge have been published here.
As a side note Matthew Parris also wrote an interesting article in the Times last December where he noted that as an atheist he truly believes that Africa needs God.
My name is Dean Tregenza. My posts to this blog come from stuff on my notebook that I gather as I go about doing the things I do. The subject matter of the posts cover pretty much anything that comes to my mind. Some of it may be about technology related things. Everything I write is possibly heresy and wrong. For the record the content in the blog posts are not necessarily the opinions or the beliefs of the author, the people he quoted, or anyone else for that matter.

ha! No shampoo or conditioner. I love it. I’ve tried it but never gone quite the distance. I have however started using the products of a company who say shampoo and conditioner are generally no better than detergent.
It’s a bar of soap they make and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in 1 litre of warm water as a rinse. I’ve been conditioner free for a week and no sign of knots or tangles. All is well! Report back on the project. I think men with short hair would probably have an easier time of transitioning than women with longer hair.
